Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets Vietnamese Foreign Minister

KPL Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Mr. Le Hoai Trung, Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs (R), met with Mr. Le Hoai Trung, Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Vientiane on January 8,2026.

The meeting took place on the occasion of Mr. Le Hoai Trung’s visit to the Lao PDR as Special Envoy of Mr. To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to convey congratulations on the successful conclusion of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP).

During the meeting, Mr. Le Hoai Trung warmly congratulated the Lao Party, State, and people on the outstanding success of the 12th National Congress of the LPRP, held from 6 to 8 January 2026. He highly appreciated Laos’s achievements in national protection and development in recent years and congratulated Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane on continuing to receive the Party’s trust and being elected as a member of the 12th-term Party Central Committee.

For his part, Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane expressed sincere appreciation for the warm congratulations and high assessment conveyed by the Vietnamese side. He affirmed that the achievements attained by Laos, both during the historic struggle for national liberation and in the current process of national protection and development, are closely linked to the valuable support and assistance of the international community, particularly the precious, timely, and sincere support of the Party, State, and people of brotherly Vietnam.

Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane also congratulated Vietnam on its remarkable achievements in national protection and development over the past 80 years, especially the significant progress made since the implementation of the renewal policy over nearly four decades, with notable socio-economic achievements recorded in 2025. He expressed confidence that, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the country will continue to achieve new successes of historical significance, including the successful organization of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, scheduled for late January 2026.

During the talks, the two Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to giving top priority to preserving and further strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic partnership between the Parties, States, and peoples of Laos and Vietnam. They emphasized the importance of promoting and closely monitoring the effective implementation of agreements reached by the two Politburos, as well as the outcomes of the 48th Meeting of the Laos–Vietnam Cooperation Committee, with a focus on deepening economic connectivity and delivering tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.

The two sides also welcomed the successful outcome of the 12th Ministerial-Level Political Consultation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, held in Vietnam in December 2025. They agreed to continue close coordination to effectively implement the Cooperation Agreement between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs for the 2026–2030 period, particularly in providing strategic advice to the Parties and States of both countries and in preparing for upcoming high-level visits and exchanges.
