(KPL) Mr Alounxay Sounnalath, Governor of Champasak Province, welcomed Mr Patrick Hemmer, Ambassador of Luxembourg to the Lao PDR, and his delegation on 4 November 2025 at the Champasak Provincial Administration Office during the Ambassador’s visit to the province.
During the meeting, Mr Alounxay extended a warm welcome to the Luxembourg delegation and expressed his appreciation for the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Lao PDR and Luxembourg. He particularly commended the fruitful partnership between Champasak Province and Luxembourg in various development sectors.
The Governor provided an overview of the province’s unique characteristics, development priorities, and potential for future cooperation. Both sides held discussions and exchanged views on expanding collaboration in several key areas, including education, the upgrading of vocational training infrastructure, and broader technical cooperation initiatives.
Over the years, Champasak Province has benefited from Luxembourg’s development assistance, particularly in the education and vocational sectors. One of the major ongoing initiatives is the five-year STAF project (2023–2027), with a budget of €26.18 million, funded by the Government of Luxembourg. The project aims to enhance the infrastructure and capacity of Champasak Technical-Vocational College, promote vocational skills development (VSD), and improve student employability to meet labour market demands and create new job opportunities.
The meeting reaffirmed the mutual commitment of both sides to continue strengthening cooperation for sustainable development and human resource advancement in Champasak Province and beyond.
