Second batch of Australian cows arrive in Laos

KPL (KPL)The Lao-Japan Agro Development Company Limited imported on 1 December the second batch of some 300 head of Australian cattle. The ceremony for the arrival of the 2nd batch of breeding cattle from Australia was held at the Wattay International Airport in Vientiane Capital and was witnessed by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr Phet Phomphiphak, the Governor of Xieng Khuang Province, Mr Somkod Mangnormek, and the Australian Ambassador to Laos, Mr John Williams.

(KPL)The Lao-Japan Agro Development Company Limited imported on 1 December the second batch of some 300 head of Australian cattle.

The ceremony for the arrival of the 2nd batch of breeding cattle from Australia was held at the Wattay International Airport in Vientiane Capital and was witnessed by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr Phet Phomphiphak, the Governor of Xieng Khuang Province, Mr Somkod Mangnormek, and the Australian Ambassador to Laos, Mr John Williams.

Animal husbandry is crucial and related to socio-economic development in Laos.  Promoting animal husbandry for commercial purposes is one of the priorities of the government according to Mr Somkod.

“Animal husbandry provides many families in Xieng Khuang Province with permanent employment,” said Mr Somkod.

Xieng Khuang Province approved the cattle breeding project of the Lao-Japan Agro Development Company Limited in an area covering 300 ha,” said Mr Somkod.

Xieng Khuang Province now has over 600 breeding cattle from the Lao-Japan Agro Development Company Limited and the company plans to import an additional 300 by the end of this month, according to Mr Somkod.

The Japanese company has invested a total of US$5 million for cattle farming in Laos with the aim of creating and developing a brand new business in Xieng Khuang Province in the years ahead.

The company plans to import an additional 600 head of Holstein heifers and 300 head of beef cattle in March or April of next year.

The first 300 breeding cattle arrived in Laos last month.
