(KPL) Prime Minister PhanKham Viphavanh held telephone talks with his Japanese counterpart Kishida Fumio on March 1 to strengthen the friendly relations and strategic partnership between the two countries.Prime Minister Phankham expressed sincere congratulations to Kishida Fumio upon his appointment as Prime Minister of Japan in November 2021. The premier expressed his willingness to work together with his Japanese counterpart to enhance the longstanding relations, fine cooperation and strategic partnership between Laos and Japan and materialize cooperation action plans the two countries approved in April 2021. Both sides highly valued the Laos-Japan relations and cooperation under bilateral and multilateral, at regional and international arena in recent years.They agreed to promote the exchange of visits between high-ranking officials of the two countries and people-to-people exchange in the aftermath of Covid-19 pandemic, the implementation of action plans and cooperation projects, including the upgrading of the Chao Anouvong Stadium, and other infrastructure development projects designed to provide enabling environment for Laos’ regional integration. Both sides also agreed to work together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in 2023, Laos’ 3rd Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2024 and the 70th anniversary of the Laos-Japan diplomatic ties in 2025.Prime Minister Phankham appreciated and highly valued the cooperation and assistance the Japanese government and people have provided to the Lao PDR over the past years, noting that such assistance was effective and timely, thus contributing to improving the living standards of the Lao people.KPL
