(KPL) The Lao Red Cross presented last week over 1.04 billion kip as relief aid to over 1,400 flood victims’ families in 9 villages in Sanamxay district, Attapeu Province.

Sanamxay district was heavily flooded following the collapse of the Xepian-Xe Nam Noy hydropower dam in late July last year. The flood claimed over 40 lives and left dozens missing.

In four shelter centres, each flood victim’s family with 1-4 members was given 600,000 kip, and every family with over 5 members was given 900,000 kip.

The relief aid was presented to beneficiary families by the Vice President of the Lao Red Cross Mr Thongphachan Sonnasin in the presence of representatives of the Provincial Department of Labour and Social Welfare, the Provincial Red Cross, and relevant authorities.
