Republic of Korea opens new Consular Office

KPL The Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Mr Kim Soo Gwon, on May 27 opened a new consular office of the Republic of Korea paving the way for increased trade and tourism between Laos and Korea in the future. The opening ceremony was held at the Vientiane Plaza Hotel, in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, and other Korean people living in Vientiane. The New Consular Office is located on the seventh Floor of the Vientiane Plaza Hotel in Vientiane Capital.

(KPL) The Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Mr Kim Soo Gwon, on May 27 opened a new consular office of the Republic of Korea paving the way for increased trade and tourism between Laos and Korea in the future.

The opening ceremony was held at the Vientiane Plaza Hotel, in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, and other Korean people living in Vientiane.

The New Consular Office is located on the seventh Floor of the Vientiane Plaza Hotel in Vientiane Capital.

Ambassador Kim Soo Gwon said that the number of Korean visitors to the Lao PDR is increasing on an annual basis, growing from around 27,000 in 2010, to about 81,700 in 2013, to around 94,600 in 2014 with 100,000 Korean tourists expected to visit Laos this year.

The number of Lao visitors to the Republic of Korea reached 5,000 last year and included many students.

The new consular office will help facilitate Korean investment in Laos. The Republic of Korea ranks as the fourth largest foreign investor in Laos and is currently operating over 400 projects.

Korean investment is estimated at around US$712 million. Meanwhile, trade between the two countries reached approximately US$200 million last year and included over US$20 million in products being exported from Laos to the Republic of Korea.
