The opening session of the forum was co-chaired by Mr Kikeo Khaykhamphithoun, Head of the Party Central Committee Propaganda and Training Board, Mr Cai Mingzhao, Deputy Director of Communist Party of China Central Committee Propaganda Department and President of Xinhua News Agency.

The meeting has been attended by more than 600 senior officials and representatives of the government bodies and business community of Laos and China.

The discussion was focused on the synergy of Laos' strategy of turning itself from a "land-locked" country to a "land-linked" one and the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative in various areas of cooperation between the two neighbours.

The participants from the two countries will be given an opportunity to discuss current cooperation opportunities and constructive and implementable recommendations made by officials of relevant sectors, experts, as well as points of view shared by representatives of chambers of commerce, financial institutes, Chinese enterprises investing in Laos and Chinese investors interested in doing business in Laos.

Key officials will be given an opportunity to share view points on the cooperation between the two countries in various areas especially energy and mining, telecommunications, connectivity, trade and investment, science and technology, and socio-culture.

Several sessions will also take place, under various topics, on the sidelines of the two-day meeting along with the signing of an agreement on the establishment of Belt and Road information centre between Lao News Agency and Huawei Technologies Laos Sole and Lao Asia Pacific Satellite Company.
