Oudomxay Hands Over Confiscated Asiatic Black Bear to Lao-Bear Conservation Centre in Luang Prabang

KPL (KPL) On Friday, Sep 1 the Forest Inspection Office in Houn district, Oudomxay Province, handed over an Asiatic black bear to Lao-Bear Conservation and Rescues Centre in Luang Prabang Province.

(KPL) On Friday, Sep 1 the Forest Inspection Office in Houn district, Oudomxay Province, handed over an Asiatic black bear to Lao-Bear Conservation and Rescues Centre in Luang Prabang Province.

The wildlife law enforcement operation was supported by World Wide Fund for Nature in Laos (WWF-Laos).

Attendants of the handover of the protected species to the rescue centre included Mr. Khamnoy Bounchampa, Deputy Director for the Forest Inspection Office of Oudomxay, and Mr. Matt Hunt from Free the Bears, as well as representatives from the District Agriculture and Forestry Office (DAFO), District Natural Resource Management and Environment Office (DNRMEO), and the District Military Office.

The bear weighed 80 kg and was confiscated from a possessor by forest authorities of Oudomxay Province.

Asiatic black bears are considered a Category 1protected species under the Wildlife and Aquatic Law of Laos.
