(KPL/VNA) Laos and Thailand have signed an agreement on pollution management, creating a five-year mutual action plan to promote bilateral cooperation in environmental issues.

The deal was inked by Thai Natural Resources and Environment Minister Surasak Karnjanarat and Laos' Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Boonkam Worajid late last week.

Thai media quoted Thai Pollution Control Department Director-General Jatuporn Buruspat as saying that the two countries will cooperate in such as management of air, noise and water pollution, garbage, hazardous wastes and chemicals; emergency responses; and related laws.

The cooperation is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand and its Lao counterpart in a conference in Vientiane on Jul 20, 2017, which calls for the creation of a five-year action plan between the two countries effective from 2017-2021 to promote academic cooperation on environment and pollution management.

The action plan will create engagements via knowledge exchanges, conferences, training programmes, visits, and research.
