(KPL) Chinese investors have shown interest in investing in tourism in Oudomxay as there are more than 100 tourist sites in the province.

More than 50,000 tourists visited Oudomxay Province last year reportedly generating more than US$4 million for the local economy.

“Today, there are a lot of tourist attractions in Oudomxay Province that are interesting to investors from several countries, especially China, who are interested in investing in, for example, the development of the Tale Waterfall, in Houn district which is a seven-tier natural waterfall surrounded by rainforest.  There are also a number of large and small waterfalls located within 20 km from the centre of the district administration,” said Mr Onekeo Oun-alom, Director of the Department of Planning and Investment of Oudomxay Province.

There is also the yet to be developed Chong Ong Cave in Xay district, located only 45 km from the district administration centre.

The province is focusing on developing Pakbeng district into a gateway for visitors.  Currently, around 100 Chinese visitors cruise downstream from Bokeo Province to Oudomxay Province on a daily basis.

“There are a lot of visitors coming from Pakbeng and we will continue to create packages including well-known attractions in the province including Nam Kat Yorla Pa and the Singkham Buddha’s Image Temple with other well-known tourist sites,” added Mr Onekeo.
