(KPL)The Lao PDR has endorsed the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 2026–2030 and the 7th National Report (7NR), marking an important step in strengthening national biodiversity conservation efforts.
The decision was reached at a Steering Committee Meeting held on August 17, 2026, by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Lao PDR.
The meeting was chaired by Vice Minister of Agriculture and Environment Saynakhone Inthavong, with remarks from UNDP Lao PDR Deputy Resident Representative Dao Xuan Lai. Representatives from relevant government agencies and development partners also attended.
Participants reached consensus on approving and submitting the NBSAP 2026–2030 and 7NR ahead of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17).
The documents will guide implementation of Laos’ biodiversity commitments and support the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, while helping mobilize partnerships and financing for concrete conservation actions.
