(KPL) The Ministry of National Defence on January 21, 2026, held a ceremony to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People’s Army (January 20, 1949 – January 20, 2026).

The event was attended by General Chansamon Chanyalath, Deputy Prime Minister, together with Lieutenant General Vongsone Inpanphim, Deputy Minister of National Defence and Head of the Military Political Department, as well as members of the leadership committee, command staff, and relevant officials.

During the ceremony, General Chansamon Chanyalath reviewed the historical formation, development, and expansion of the Lao People’s Army, highlighting its pivotal role during the national liberation struggle against imperialist aggression and both old and new colonialism, as well as in fulfilling the two strategic tasks of national defence and national development.

He emphasized that the establishment of the Lao People’s Army marked a significant historical milestone in the revolutionary movement, representing a major step forward in strengthening the armed forces and serving as the core force supporting the Lao people’s struggle for national independence, sovereignty, and the well-being of the multi-ethnic Lao people.

The Deputy Prime Minister also recalled that the army was initially established as the Latxavong Force, later renamed the Free Lao Army, then the Lao People’s Liberation Army, and is now known as the Lao People’s Army.

In his remarks, General Chansamon Chanyalath called on officers and soldiers to continue strengthening the patriotic spirit of the Lao People’s Army, clearly distinguish between friends and enemies, remain loyal to the nation and the Party, and dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to serving the interests of the country and the people.
