Party Secretary General and State President of the Lao PDR, Thongloun Sisoulith, warmly received a courtesy call from Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, on Dec 3 at the Party Central Committee’s Office in Vientiane on the occasion of his visit to Laos to co-chair the 48th Meeting of the Laos-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee on Bilateral Cooperation.

(KPL) Party Secretary General and State President of the Lao PDR, Thongloun Sisoulith, warmly received a courtesy call from Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, on Dec 3 at the Party Central Committee’s Office in Vientiane on the occasion of his visit to Laos to co-chair the 48th Meeting of the Laos-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee on Bilateral Cooperation.
President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed his warm welcome and high appreciation for the Vietnamese premier’s visit. He extended congratulations on the successful outcomes of the 48th Intergovernmental Committee meeting, jointly chaired by the Prime Ministers of both nations.
President Thongloun sincerely thanked the Party, State, and people of Vietnam for their invaluable assistance to Laos, both during the past struggle for national liberation and in the current period of national protection and development.
He highlighted Vietnam's multifaceted support, which was crucial for the comprehensive success of the recent 50th National Day celebrations of the Lao PDR.
Both sides spoke highly of and congratulated each other on the national development achievements attained by the Parties, States, and peoples of Laos and Vietnam in recent times. They praised the bilateral cooperative relationship, which continues to be characterized by the highest level of trust, with regular exchanges of delegations at all levels.
The leaders reviewed and commended recent key successes, including the successful state visit to Laos by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam, the positive outcomes of the 2026 annual meeting between the two countries' political bureaus, and the productive results of the 48th Intergovernmental Committee session.
Looking ahead, both sides agreed to continue promoting visits and exchanges at all levels to strengthen the special solidarity and friendship. They committed to enhancing the quality and effectiveness of cooperation across all sectors, ensuring closer coordination. The leaders emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the established cooperative mechanisms to yield even greater results.
A key focus will be enhancing policy coordination for infrastructure development, advancing strategic projects including the Vientiane -Hanoi Expressway and the Vientiane-Thakhek-Vung Ang railway. Both sides also agreed to intensify public outreach and education for younger generations, deepening their understanding of the origins and paramount importance of the unique Laos-Vietnam relationship.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the Lao side for the warm reception and congratulated Laos on the splendid success of its 50th National Day celebrations. He affirmed Vietnam's commitment to continue working closely with the Lao side to effectively implement the agreements reached by the two political bureaus and governments, turning them into concrete results for the benefit of the peoples of Vietnam and Laos.
