Laos and Vietnam Strengthen Comprehensive Cooperation

13/11/2025 11:09
KPL Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, met with Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Ho Duc Phoc, during his official visit and working trip to the Lao PDR from 12–13 November 2025.

During the meeting, both sides held open and cordial discussions, reaffirming their mutual commitment to further strengthening the traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.

The two Deputy Prime Ministers highly valued the continued progress achieved in bilateral cooperation, noting the frequent exchange of high-level visits and close coordination between ministries, sectors, and local authorities of both countries. They reviewed the outcomes of the recent meeting between the two Politburos and assessed the implementation of the Lao-Vietnam Cooperation Agreement for 2025, which has yielded tangible results across multiple sectors — including political and foreign affairs, national defense and security, education and human resource development, as well as economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

Both sides agreed to continue promoting and closely monitoring the implementation of the outcomes of the Politburo-level meeting and the 47th Meeting of the Lao-Vietnam Cooperation Committee. They emphasized the need to accelerate the progress of key strategic projects such as the Vientiane–Hanoi Expressway, Vung Ang Port Projects 1, 2, and 3, and the Lao-Vietnam Railway Development Project.

The two leaders also engaged in candid discussions to seek joint solutions to challenges faced in certain projects, including the Potash Project in Khammouane Province and the rubber plantation project of the Vietnam Rubber Group.

In addition, both sides agreed to make comprehensive preparations for the upcoming state visit to Laos by Comrade To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, who will attend the celebrations marking the 50th Anniversary of the National Day of the Lao PDR. They also discussed coordination for the next meeting between the two Politburos and the 48th Meeting of the Lao-Vietnam Cooperation Committee, scheduled to take place in Laos at the end of 2025.

During his stay, Mr. Ho Duc Phoc and his delegation will also visit and inspect the progress of the Lao-Vietnam Friendship Park — a symbolic project representing the enduring and ever-strengthening solidarity and cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples of Laos and Vietnam.
