(KPL) General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President, Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, received a courtesy call from Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung and his delegation on July 9, 2025, during the latter’s official visit to Laos from July 9–11.

This marked Deputy PM Nguyen Chi Dung’s first visit to Laos since his appointment in February 2025. General Secretary Thongloun extended a warm welcome and highly valued the visit as a meaningful contribution to deepening the traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam. He also conveyed warm greetings to General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and the leadership of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people.

Both sides commended the socio-economic progress made by their respective countries and acknowledged the continued strengthening of bilateral relations. They emphasized the importance of regular high-level exchanges, including President Thongloun’s participation in Vietnam’s 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification on April 30, 2025.

The leaders also welcomed the successful completion and inauguration of Berths No. 1, 2, and 3 at Vung Ang Port — a milestone with historical significance in Laos–Vietnam cooperation.

President Thongloun praised the outcomes of the working meeting between Deputy PM Nguyen Chi Dung and Lao Deputy PM Saleumxay Kommasith, which reviewed the implementation of agreements by both Politburos and the outcomes of the 47th Laos–Vietnam Cooperation Committee Meeting. He urged the two governments to intensify collaboration to ensure the timely and successful completion of strategic cooperation projects.

He further emphasized the importance of enhancing economic integration, particularly through infrastructure connectivity, and called for close coordination in preparation for major upcoming anniversaries — the 80th National Day of Vietnam (September 2, 2025) and the 50th National Day of the Lao PDR (December 2, 2025).

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, in return, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and conveyed greetings from Vietnamese leaders to General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to working closely with Laos to implement high-level agreements, build on the results of the recent bilateral meetings, and advance the special relationship between the two countries.
