(KPL) On July 4, the Department of Industry and Commerce of Oudomxay Province destroyed 87 analogue weighing scales used for selling food supplies, as part of the province’s push to promote the use of digital scales over analogue ones.

The operation was carried out in cooperation with provincial department officials, market owners, slaughterhouse operators, local vendors, and relevant authorities.

This action followed a directive issued last November by the provincial authorities, urging local food vendors to stop using analogue scales and switch to digital ones.

The campaign is part of ongoing efforts by the Intellectual Property, Standards, and Measurement Division, which began in late 2024. These efforts led to the seizure of 87 analogue scales from vendors in the provincial capital, including units with capacities of 50 kg, 30 kg, 15 kg, 10 kg, and 5 kg.

The initiative is in line with the provincial leadership’s guidance to address public concerns about inaccurate weighing practices. It is spearheaded by the Department of Industry and Commerce of Oudomxay Province and aims to transition from analogue to digital weighing scales for food sales, in order to address pressing social issues related to unfair trade practices.
