Ministries of Energy and Industry to Merge; Senior Officials Retire

KPL The Ministry of Energy and Mines has merged with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, following decisions made at a key meeting held on June 16, 2025. The meeting took place at Electricite du Laos, chaired by Mr. Phoxay Sayasone, Minister of Energy and Mines and member of the Party Central Committee.

(KPL)  The Ministry of Energy and Mines has merged with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, following decisions made at a key meeting held on June 16, 2025. The meeting took place at Electricite du Laos, chaired by Mr. Phoxay Sayasone, Minister of Energy and Mines and member of the Party Central Committee.

The meeting reviewed regulations from the Central Organizational Mechanism Improvement Committee. Ms. Sengdeuane Vongin, Director of the Department of Organization and Personnel, reported on the new structure, personnel transfers, and upcoming retirements.

Ten central-level officials are set to retire. This includes four department directors:

1. Mr. Sukhansak Sisouk, Director of the Department of Geology and Minerals

2. Mr. Bouathep Malaikham, Director of Energy Industry Safety Management

3. Mr. Somphit Keovichit, Director of the Energy Business Department

4. Mr. Chantho Milattanapheng, Director of Energy Promotion and Conservation

Six deputy directors will also retire:

1. Ms. Leuang Phomsouvanh, Inspection Department

2. Mr. Vongkham Chaleunsouk, Department of Mines Management

3. Mr. Houmphan Vongphachanh, Department of Energy Management

4. Mr. Thammanon Nakhavit, Department of Energy Management

5. Mr. Vongthong Thimahaxay, Department of Mines Management

6. Mr. Phoukhong Sengvilay, Department of Energy Industry Safety Management

The restructuring aims to improve efficiency and align national economic priorities under a unified ministry. The government will continue to implement further organizational reforms across sectors.
