(KPL/VNA) Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman has announced a government plan to support low-income people by providing 10 kilogrammes of rice per person per month during June and July.

The programme aims to stabilise livelihoods and mitigate the effects of inflation, with an estimated 360 tonnes of rice to be distributed under the plan.

In a statement, Sulaiman emphasised that in regions where market rice prices exceed the government’s purchasing price (HPP), distribution will proceed on a monthly basis.

Meanwhile, in urban areas where rice production is limited and prices are significantly higher, the programme will be rolled out earlier to help contain price hikes.

The allocation of rice will be carefully calculated in line with local conditions. In areas where market prices fall below the government’s purchase rate, rice distribution will be suspended to protect the interests of farmers and local suppliers.

Sulaiman added that the National Food Agency (Bapanas) has confirmed sufficient rice reserves to support approximately 18.3 million recipients. The aid will be distributed selectively, ensuring that only eligible groups benefit while also safeguarding rice prices for farmers.
