Dien Bien holds memorial, reburial ceremony for Vietnamese soldiers repatriated from Laos

KPL (KPL/VNA) A memorial and burial ceremony was held on May 26 at Tong Khao Martyrs’ Cemetery in Thanh Nua commune, Dien Bien district in the northern province of Dien Bien for seven Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed in Laos during wartime.

(KPL/VNA) A memorial and burial ceremony was held on May 26 at Tong Khao Martyrs’ Cemetery in Thanh Nua commune, Dien Bien district in the northern province of Dien Bien for seven Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed in Laos during wartime.

Previously, on May 25 morning, Dien Bien province receive the remains of eight Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts which were recovered during the 2024-2025 dry season. Of those, only one was identified thanks to sufficient information, so the remains of the martyr were returned to Ha Giang province to his family.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee Lo Van Cuong emphasised that during the years of fighting in the neighboring country, the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts united with the Lao army and people to promote the nation's tradition of resilience and indomitability. They overcame all difficulties and hardships, sacrificing themselves for the cause of national liberation, contributing to enhancing the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Cuong also expressed his sincere gratitude to the Lao Party, State and people for their care and support to Vietnamese soldiers and experts.

The ceremony was marked by solemn tributes, including incense and wreath offerings, as officials and citizens paid respects to those who sacrificed their lives for national independence and international solidarity./.
