(KPL/VNA)The second consultative meeting of Young Parliamentarians of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) was held in Selengor, Malaysia, on May 6.

The event brought together parliamentarians from ASEAN member countries to work together to build a more comprehensive, sustainable and future-ready ASEAN Common Vision.

Speaking at the event, AIPA 2025 President and Dewan Rakyat (House of Representatives) Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said that the youth is not only a core force of the future, but also shape the present. AIPA must be a platform to amplify the voice of the youth, link their aspirations to appropriate policies and ensure that no one is left behind.

At the meeting, MP Dato’ InderaMohdShahar bin Abdullah of the Malaysian House of Representatives was officially appointed as the President of Young Parliamentarians of the AIPA (YPA). He then chaired the YPA plenary session, taking note of many contributions and recommendations from parliamentarians of ASEAN member countries to enhance youth participation in national and regional policy-making.

The conference had two dialogue sessions focusing on promoting sustainability, empowering ASEAN youth and developing ASEAN youth generation by harnessing the digital age.

The dialogue sessions featured parliamentarians and youth representatives who highlighted cross-sectoral approaches to engaging young citizens in governance, innovation and community development.

At the closing session of the meeting, MP Dato’ InderaMohdShahar delivered a speech reinforcing the message that AIPA must be steadfast in creating space for youth to participate in shaping the future of ASEAN.

The outcomes of the meeting will contribute to the youth-focused agenda of the 46th AIPA General Assembly, scheduled to be held in Malaysia in September this year.
