(KPL) Attapeu Province hosted its traditional gold panning festival at Kengxay Beach, Ban Lak 3, Samakhixay District, to mark the end of B.E. 2567 and welcome the Lao New Year B.E. 2568. The event was attended by Attapeu Provincial Governor Lt. Gen. Vanthong Kongmany, along with provincial and district leaders, as well as local residents.

Mr. Bounsern Setthirath, Deputy Governor of Attapeu Province, stated that the festival was held to celebrate the Lao New Year and foster a joyful atmosphere. The province organized five main activities for the occasion: traditional gold panning, a goods exhibition, traditional sports competitions, the water festival, and sandcastle-making.

Local authorities aim to preserve gold panning as a cultural tradition intertwined with the lifestyle of Attapeu’s ethnic communities. Beyond its cultural significance, gold panning serves as an important supplementary income source for many families, second only to agriculture.

This year’s festival saw participation from representatives of 12 villages within and outside Samakhixay District, with the event radiating a vibrant and festive spirit.
