NA Vice President Presents Amendments to the Constitution

KPL At the 2nd Extraordinary Session of the 9th National Assembly, which opened this morning, National Assembly Vice President Chaleun Yiapaoher presented proposed amendments to the Constitution of the Lao PDR (2015 revision).

(KPL) At the 2nd Extraordinary Session of the 9th National Assembly, which opened this morning, National Assembly Vice President Chaleun Yiapaoher presented proposed amendments to the Constitution of the Lao PDR (2015 revision).

Mr. Chaleun Yiapaoher, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the National Committee for the Amendment of the Constitution, introduced the proposed amendments.

Following his presentation, National Assembly members from various provincial constituencies provided their opinions to ensure the content is comprehensive and consistent with the Party and government guidelines.

Mr. Chaleun highlighted the reasons for and the necessity of amending the Constitution. This amendment, the third of its kind, aims to enhance the efficiency of the state power system, marking a new turning point for national protection, development, and integration into regional and global economies.

He also provided an update on the implementation of the 2015 revision of the Constitution, emphasizing its importance as a fundamental law for national protection, the rule of law, and a reference for the creation and improvement of laws.

The draft revised Constitution of 2025 consists of 14 chapters and 122 articles, including 5 new articles and 59 amended articles. Upon approval and promulgation, it will serve as the foundation for more effective state governance and the strengthening of the country’s democratic political system.
