KPL (KPL/VNA) Vietnam’s Kon Tum province and Laos’ Attapeu province have agreed to upgrade the Dak Long – Vang Tat auxiliary border gates to main ones.

(KPL/VNA) Vietnam’s Kon Tum province and Laos’ Attapeu province have agreed to upgrade the Dak Long – Vang Tat auxiliary border gates to main ones.

A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed by Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of the Central Highlands province of Kom Tum Y Ngoc and Deputy Governor of Attapeu province Thanuvong Bansalit at their talks in Kon Tum on March 13.

The leaders emphasised that elevating the border gate’s status is vital to improving the flow of people, goods, and vehicles, while also unlocking new investment opportunities. The move is expected to accelerate infrastructure development, generate employment for local communities, and strengthen economic ties between Vietnam’s Central Highlands and central coastal provinces and Laos' southern regions.

Currently, Kon Tum province’s border with Laos hosts three border gates, namely the Bo Y – Phu Cua international border gate and the two auxiliary gates of Dak Long – Vang Tat and Dak Blo – Dak Bar.

Vice Chairwoman Y Ngoc commended the strong cooperation between Kon Tum and Attapeu in recent years, highlighting their joint efforts in safeguarding border security, managing boundary markers, and curbing cross-border crimes. Their effective coordination in enhancing border marker systems has contributed to a stable, cooperative, and prosperous border region.

The Dak Long – Vang Tat border gate has traditionally served travel, family visits, and modest trade. By elevating it to a main gate, authorities aim to expand trade routes, boost tourism, and foster broader cooperation between Vietnamese and Lao localities.
