(KPL/VNA) China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is becoming a shopping haven for consumers from ASEAN countries, according to the news site hkcna.hk.

A survey published in Hong Kong on March 10 revealed that the local products are highly popular among online shoppers in ASEAN nations. Those from Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia lead the region in both purchase volume and average spending.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council interviewed over 1,800 ASEAN consumers between June and July last year. The findings showed that 70% of respondents were most interested in Hong Kong’s consumer electronics, while 38% preferred fashion items, followed by beauty and personal care products.

Thai consumers showed the highest interest in Hong Kong’s e-commerce products, with 81% of respondents stating they had purchased its goods online in the past 12 months. This was followed by Indonesia (73%) and the Philippines (69%). Shoppers from Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia recorded the highest average spending on goods from the Chinese region.

Notably, beyond online shopping, the number of Southeast Asian tourists visiting Hong Kong has been on the rise in recent years. The Hong Kong Tourism Board previously reported that a total of 10.5 million international visitors, excluding those from mainland China, traveled to Hong Kong in 2024.

The number of Filipino visitors to Hong Kong for the entire year reached nearly 1.2 million, a record high, marking a 129% increase compared to pre-COVID-19 levels. Those from Indonesia and Malaysia saw increases of 43% and 50%, respectively.
