This year’s festival marks a special occasion as it commemorates the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Lao PDR. The event will feature a dynamic lineup of performances, cultural showcases, and interactive activities.

This was followed by a breathtaking Shishimai (lion dance) performance by world-renowned Japanese traditional dancer Ukon Takafuji. Adding to the excitement, Japanese pop singer krage made her debut in Laos, mesmerizing the audience with her outstanding songwriting and vocal performance.

Day Two (February 15) will showcase performances from Matsuri (festival) groups, including primary and secondary school students presenting music, dance, and martial arts demonstrations. Japan’s highly acclaimed calligrapher, Mohri Suzuki, will perform his dynamic calligraphy art, embodying the philosophy of “a correct heart leads to a correct brush (LEE)”.

What could possibly link Ankara and Vientiane, separated by thousands of kilometers? The answer lies in modern, pragmatic diplomacy, where geographical distance is outweighed by mutual strategic interests and long-term vision. This is not a partnership rooted in shared history or deep cultural ties, but a deliberate, gradual bridge-building exercise within a shifting global landscape.
