As the largest Japanese cultural event in the Lao PDR, the festival has been held once every two or three years since 2011, offering unforgettable performances and experiences.

This year’s festival marks a special occasion as it commemorates the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Lao PDR. The event will feature a dynamic lineup of performances, cultural showcases, and interactive activities.

Day One (February 14) kicked off with an electrifying dance performance by Reuanglao Dance Company, founded by Lao C-Lil and Japanese dancer Asako. This was followed by a breathtaking Shishimai (lion dance) performance by world-renowned Japanese traditional dancer Ukon Takafuji. Adding to the excitement, Japanese pop singer krage made her debut in Laos, mesmerizing the audience with her outstanding songwriting and vocal performance.

Day Two (February 15) will showcase performances from Matsuri (festival) groups, including primary and secondary school students presenting music, dance, and martial arts demonstrations. Japan’s highly acclaimed calligrapher, Mohri Suzuki, will perform his dynamic calligraphy art, embodying the philosophy of “a correct heart leads to a correct brush (LEE)”.

The event will enjoy a Japanese sake and Lao beer tasting experience, Laos’ beloved singer Tanu Vanassin will share insights and experiences, featuring a parade of Japanese anime characters and Bon Odori Dance. All visitors will be invited to participate in the traditional Japanese Bon Odori dance to conclude the festival in spectacular fashion.

Exhibitions & Cultural Activities: Japanese-related organizations will set up booths to engage visitors with cultural exhibits and interactive experiences.
