(Xinhua/KPL) The Laos-China Railway has become a key driver of regional economic development, China's railway operator announced Tuesday.

Since its launch on December 3, 2021, the 1,035-km railway has provided safe and sustainable transport, handling over 43 million passenger trips and 48.3 million tonnes of cargo as of Monday, according to the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.

As a flagship project of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, the railway links Kunming, China, with the Laotian capital, Vientiane.
