(KPL) On October 30, 2024, the Lao Red Cross provided financial support to flood victims in Hongsa District, Xayaboury Province.

The assistance, funded by the Swiss Red Cross to Laos, aims to alleviate the hardships faced by affected residents.

Present at the event were President of the Lao Red Cross Khamlavanh Chanthalavanh, Xayaboury Province Deputy Governor Phethphixay Sounvilay, Swiss Red Cross Vientiane Office Director Binita Poudel, and representatives from relevant authorities and local beneficiaries.

This assistance is provided in the form of unconditional cash distribution, a method that is both effective and responsive to the specific needs of the affected population, allowing them to address immediate needs following the flood.

In Hongsa District, 11 villages (340 families) were impacted, including the villages of Phonchan, Kiewmuang, Meuang Han, Napung, Huay Yai, Pak Huay Yang, Thenkham, Thaxuang, Keng-en, Thanoun, and Pak Ngum.

The distribution is structured into three levels: households with 1-5 members received 1.2 million kip, households with 6-10 members received 2 million kip, and households with more than 10 members received 2.6 million kip. The total value of the assistance exceeded 530 million kip, funded by the Swiss Red Cross in Laos.
