Lao-Chinese Food Festival Celebrates Cultural Ties Through Cuisine

KPL The National Chinese and Foreign Language Exchange Center, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute and the National University of Laos, hosted the Lao-Chinese Food Festival on October 29, at the Confucius Institute Club.

(KPL)  The National Chinese and Foreign Language Exchange Center, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute and the National University of Laos, hosted the Lao-Chinese Food Festival on October 29, at the Confucius Institute Club.

Themed "People regard food as important," the event offered participants a taste of unique Lao and Chinese dishes and insights into the cultural and medicinal significance of food ingredients.

"This festival is a wonderful chance for students to experience China’s long-standing culinary heritage," said Mr. Desanulath Senduangdet, Acting Dean of the National University of Laos. “Beyond flavor, these foods carry the rich cultural traditions of diverse regions across China.” He highlighted the Confucius Institute’s role in fostering Lao-Chinese cultural exchanges and advancing language education, contributing significantly to bilateral cooperation.

Chinese Embassy representative, Mr. Tu Zhangxing remarked on the festival’s importance, as 2024 marks the 15th anniversary of the Laos-China comprehensive strategic partnership. "The Confucius Institute serves as a bridge for educational and cultural exchanges between our nations," Mr. Tu said, adding that the festival strengthens mutual understanding and friendship, especially among the younger generation.

The Lao-Chinese Food Festival highlighted the depth of Chinese food culture, where each dish symbolizes heritage and tradition, enhancing the deep bond between Laos and China.
