(KPL) On the occasion of the 12th ASEAN-U.S. Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit (EAS) held in Vientiane, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken held a press conference to highlight the success of his visit to the Lao PDR and his participation in the summits.
Secretary Blinken expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone for the warm reception and commended Laos' leadership as Chair of ASEAN, acknowledging the significant progress made in strengthening regional cooperation.
He emphasized the robust partnership between the Lao PDR and the United States, which has deepened since the elevation of bilateral relations in 2016. Blinken noted that the Lao-U.S. Comprehensive Partnership has played a pivotal role in fostering collaboration across sectors such as education, youth development, health, and human resource development.
The U.S. Secretary of State also highlighted the importance of ongoing efforts to address unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Laos, reaffirming the U.S. government's commitment to providing financial support for UXO clearance. He also reiterated the U.S.'s commitment to further strengthening multilateral cooperation with ASEAN member states, with the goal of promoting prosperity throughout the region.
