(KPL) The “Blooming Flowers and Full Moon” China-Vietnam Mid-Autumn Festival Gala made its grand debut on the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrated this year on September 17. Hosted by the Information Office and the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province, the event was held in partnership with the Chinese Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The festivities began with a gesture of solidarity. In the wake of Super Typhoon Yagi, which recently caused widespread destruction in northern Vietnam and parts of southern China, Chinese-funded business associations, including the China Business Association Ho Chi Minh City Branch, donated VND 3.8 billion (approximately RMB 1.1 million) to the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City, supporting relief efforts for those affected by the disaster.

The gala opened with a mesmerizing dance performance titled "Beauty in Harmony," followed by a series of cultural showcases under the theme "Blooming Flowers and Full Moon." The event was divided into four segments: "Flowers" (Blossoms in Abundance), "Prosperity" (A Year of Good Fortune), "Moon" (Full Moon during Mid-Autumn), and "Reunion" (Celebrating Together). Artists from China and Vietnam shared the stage, performing traditional songs and dances, symbolizing the strong bond between the two neighboring countries.
A highlight of the evening was an interactive performance for children, called “Blessings from Chang’e.” Dancers dressed as Chang’e, the Chinese Goddess of the Moon, handed out Mid-Autumn Festival-themed gifts to Vietnamese children, including lanterns, rabbit figurines, and cultural keepsakes.

Lam Quang Duc, a Vietnamese-Chinese translator who attended the event, expressed his admiration for the performances. “Yunnan is a beautiful place, and the Chinese people are always welcoming. The performances today truly showcased the deep friendship between our two nations,” he said.
Miao Peng, a Chinese attendee from Yunnan, noted the significance of the event. “This gala highlights the merging of traditional cultures from both China and Vietnam, and I believe it will strengthen people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding between the two nations.”
The gala was part of the larger “Blooming Flowers and Full Moon” 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival Cultural Exchange, which includes the “Sharing the Same Moon” cultural salon and the “Harmony under the Same Moon” photo exhibition. These events aim to deepen cultural exchanges and promote harmony and friendship between China and Vietnam.

In Taihe county, Fuyang, east China’s Anhui province, a unique stall has become a fixture in a local park every weekend and on public holidays. It does not sell snacks or trinkets. Instead, it displays cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) manikins and first-aid kits, inviting passersby to stop, learn, and practice essential life-saving techniques free of charge. The stall is run by Wu Lei, deputy head of the medical consortium office at Taihe County People’s Hospital, and his wife Liu Jing, head nurse of the hospital’s emergency department. For more than eight years, the couple has dedicated their spare time to this "first-aid stall," while also leading a volunteer team to schools, communities, and government offices. Together, they have helped over 100,000 people acquire life-saving skills. Wu traces the origins of their endeavor to a tragedy that still weighs heavily on him.
