(KPL) Lao media and foreign journalists visited China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) last week following their participation in the 2024 Media Cooperation Forum on the Belt and Road, which began on August 28 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.
CCCC played a key role in constructing the Laos-China Railway, which officially opened in December 2021. This railway, stretching from Kunming in China’s Yunnan Province to Vientiane, Laos, spans approximately 1,035 kilometers. It includes the Kunming-Yuxi section, the Yuxi-Mohan section within China, and the Mohan-Vientiane section in Laos.
An
essential component of the Pan-Asian Railway’s central line, the
Laos-China Railway is the first international rail project predominantly
financed, constructed, and operated by Chinese entities. It employs
Chinese technical standards and equipment while directly connecting with
China’s railway network. The railway’s completion marks the first time
railway access has reached Pu'er City and Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous
Prefecture in Yunnan Province, significantly reducing travel times. A
trip from Kunming to Jinghong in Xishuangbanna now takes about three and
a half hours, with travel to Vientiane expected to be completed within
the same day.
The
Laos-China Railway is instrumental in enhancing connectivity between
China and its neighboring countries. It promotes the China-ASEAN Free
Trade Area, supports China’s western development strategy, and boosts
socio-economic growth along the railway route.
