(KPL) The 21st ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting (AMIM) was hosted by the Lao People's Army on September 3, 2024.

The meeting was chaired by Maj. Gen. Bouavan Atthanasay, Head of Department 213 of the Lao People's Army. Senior military intelligence officials from ASEAN member states and a representative from Timor-Leste, attending as an observer, participated in the discussions.

During the meeting, Major General Bouavan Athanasay emphasized the geopolitical significance of the Southeast Asia region, particularly in terms of politics, military, and socio-economic development. He noted that the region and the world continue to face both traditional and non-traditional security challenges, which directly and indirectly impact peace, stability, and development.

He urged ASEAN member states to continue to strengthen their cooperation to address these challenges.

The AMIM provided an important platform for ASEAN military intelligence officials to exchange views on enhancing cooperation in the intelligence sector, contributing to regional defense collaboration, and safeguarding peace, stability, and resilience in the region. This aligns with the overarching theme of the ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Meeting, the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting, and other related meetings held this year.

Additionally, the meeting included discussions and the adoption of a draft joint statement for the 21st ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Meeting, a key document that will serve as a foundation for promoting ASEAN military cooperation.
