(KPL) On August 18th, the 'HWPL Religious Peace Camp' was held in the Bang Rak district of Bangkok, Thailand, hosted by the international peace organization HWPL.
This event was noteworthy as it was co-organized by HWPL, Haroon Mosque, Muang Ke Temple, and the Assumption Cathedral in Thailand.
Through religious and cultural exchange activities in the Bang Rak district of Thailand, HWPL aimed to emphasize the importance of mutual respect and cooperation among different religions, contributing to the creation of a more peaceful society.
Around 30 people attended this event, including participants from the 1st and 2nd cohorts of the Bible Experience Programme (BEP) residing in Thailand, religious leaders from the Bang Rak area, and local residents.
The Bang Rak district in Bangkok, Thailand, is a multicultural and historic area located in the heart of the city. Since the 19th century, it has developed as a hub of commerce and diplomacy. It is also recognized as a model of religious harmony and understanding, where various religions have peacefully coexisted for over 200 years.
Today, Bang Rak continues to evolve as a space where Bangkok's dynamism and tradition merge, reinterpreting the heritage of the past in a modern context. Leveraging Bang Rak's status as a symbol of religious harmony in Thailand, HWPL representatives and religious leaders from Bangkok shared examples of maintaining religious peace in this area through an offline Religious Union Office.
They aimed to use these examples to advance HWPL's religious harmony programmes.
Participants shared and discussed peace case studies from the Bang Rak district, focusing on religious and cultural dimensions in various regions. Following this, they engaged in cultural experiences related to Islam, Buddhism, and Christianity, which deepened their understanding of each other's religions.
By co-hosting this HWPL peace event, the religious leaders felt a renewed sense of affection and pride for their hometown, and they gained motivation for future peace initiatives.
HWPL plans to continue its efforts to build a peaceful society not only in the Bangkok area but throughout Thailand by implementing peace projects such as religious peace camps, peace education, and eco-projects tailored to each region.
