ASEAN Senior Officials Meet in Vientiane

KPL (KPL) An ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting was held in Vientiane on July 23, presided over by Mr. Thongphane Savanphet, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Leader of ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting of the Lao PDR.

(KPL) An ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting was held in Vientiane on July 23, presided over by Mr. Thongphane Savanphet, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Leader of ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting of the Lao PDR.

Participating in this meeting were the heads of senior officials from ASEAN member states, Timor Leste, and the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN.

The ASEAN senior officials reviewed the progress in implementing the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Master Plan 2025, discussed priorities for Lao PDR's 2024 ASEAN chairmanship, applications for membership in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), external cooperation, and preparations for several major events including the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with Dialogue Partners, and the 25th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

The participants also discussed preparations for the 14th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the 31st ASEAN Regional Forum Ministers' Meeting, which will be held in Vientiane from July 24-27. 

Additionally, today witnessed the Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ), where officials reviewed the progress in implementing the action plan of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapons Free Zone Treaty (2023-2027) and discussed the accession of Timor Leste to the treaty.
