(KPL) Lawmakers at their ongoing 7th Ordinary Session on Monday debated amendments to the Law on the election of members of the National Assembly and the provincial people’s council.

The law amendments were presented at the meeting by President of the Commission on the Affairs of the National Assembly’s Members Souban Savabouth.

“It is quite satisfactory that so far this law has served as a key tool for electing members of the National Assembly and the Provincial People's Council in accordance with established laws thus promoting the right of people’s democracy in the election of members of the national and provincial legislative bodies,” said Mr Souban Savabouth.

The Law on election of members of the National Assembly was approved by the National Assembly in 1991, the same year the first constitution of the Lao PDR was endorsed.

Since then, the law has been revised five times.
