(KPL) The 31st Meeting of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council was held today, Mar 24, in Luang Prabang under the chairmanship of Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Suanesavanh Vignaket.
The meeting also saw the presence ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, members of the ASEAN Socio-cultural Community Council, Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion of Timor Leste and relevant officials from ASEAN member states.
(KPL) The 31st Meeting of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council was held today, Mar 24, in Luang Prabang under the chairmanship of Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Suanesavanh Vignaket.
The meeting also saw the presence ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, members of the ASEAN Socio-cultural Community Council, Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion of Timor Leste and relevant officials from ASEAN member states.
The meeting discussed progress in implementing activities of the Socio-cultural Community over the past months and exchanged points of views on a vision for making the community ready for opportunities and challenges.
The participants approved 9 ASEAN documents which will be proposed to ASEAN leaders for consideration of approval at their 44th and 45th summits to be held in Vientiane in October 2024.
They also approved a report of the 36th Meeting of ASEAN Socio-cultural Community senior officials, a report of the Meeting of ASEAN Socio-cultural Council to the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and a joint statement of the Meeting of ASEAN Socio-cultural Community Council.
Minister Suanesavanh expressed her belief that the documents approved at the 31st Meeting of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council will become key legal instruments for all parties, both public and private, and references for concrete implementation for the common interest of ASEAN people.
“ASEAN needs to further fulfill the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and ASEAN Socio-cultural Community Blueprint 2025 as planned. The Lao PDR has identified 9 priorities for its ASEAN Chairmanship 2024. These include four priorities for the ASEAN Socio-cultural Community: promoting the role of ASEAN culture and the arts for inclusion and sustainability; promoting environmental cooperation: resilience to climate change; promoting the role of women and children towards the transformation of behaviourism in ASEAN and Transforming ASEAN Health Development Resilience in a New Context.
The Lao PDR also realize the importance of migrant workers, development and recognition of labour skills of migrant workers in ASEAN.
Minister Suanesavanh called on ASEAN member states to realize visions, statements, action plans, guidelines, legal instruments and initiatives of the ASEAN Socio-cultural Community.
She also urged all parties to work together to devise the strategic plan of ASEAN Socio-cultural Community post 2025 and conduct a mid-term review of the ASEAN Socio-cultural Community Blueprint 2025 (ASCC Blueprint 2025).
