Students, teachers in Bokeo to benefit as Japan supports school construction

(KPL)The Government of Japan is providing grant assistance worth approximately USD 78,500 for the benefit of students and their teachers in Bokeo Province through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The project supports the construction of a new building of school as well as the provision of school furniture at Mokso Lower Secondary School in Bokeo Province to improve the educational.

The grant contract was signed on September 27, between Mr. Kobayashi Kenichi, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR and a representative of the provincial authority.

The contract signing was witnessed by Mr. Khamphaya Phompanya, Vice Governor of Bokeo Province as well as representatives of the Office of Education and Sports of Pha-Oudom district.

“This generous support is a very important contribution to the development of human resources and socio-economic development in Bokeo Province, especially in the education sector in Pha-Oudom District,” BokeoVice governor Mr. Khamphaya said.

“Over the years, the Government and people of Japan have provided a variety of support including construction of school buildings in the province, which have greatly contributed to the improvement of basic infrastructure, including better access to education for children.”

“We hope that this project will greatly improve the learning environment for students and the working environment for teachers, as well as the good condition at school,” Ambassador Kobayashi said.

Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) provides funds for relatively small-scale projects that directly benefit local residents by supporting economic and social development in developing countries including Laos.

The Government of Japan has provided more than USD 520,000 over the past five years to Bokeo Province to support education, health, infrastructure, and other areas. In shared effort to address regional disparities in socio-economic development, Japan will continue to support initiatives to improve the basic standard of living at grassroots level in the Lao PDR to ensure “no-one is left behind”.
