Care International supports Lao media empowerment project

KPL (KPL) A Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening Lao media empowerment project through the participation of mass and social organizations for green development in the Lao PDR was signed in Vientiane on Sep 14.

(KPL) A Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening Lao media empowerment project through the participation of mass and social organizations for green development in the Lao PDR was signed in Vientiane on Sep 14.

Signatories to the document were Mr. Somsavad Phongsa, Director of the Mass Media Department, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and Ms Keoamphone Souvannaphoum, Director of Care International Laos, in presence of Mr Phosy Keomanivong, Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Savankhone Razountry, President of Lao Journalists’ Association and relevant officials of both sides.

“The project aims to ensure that everyone can access information and protect basic freedoms in accordance with national laws, such as international convention which mention in the Sustainable Development Goals Convention,” said Mr. Somsavad.

“The important of this project is also to promote cooperation with development partners, such as the Department of Mass Media, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, represented by the Lao PDR Journalists' Association, which receives funding from the European Union,” he went on.

The project will be implemented this month until Feb 2027 by working closely with the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, International Planning and Cooperation Department and Mass Media Department.
