Nong Khang Airport handed over

KPL (KPL) The handover of newly built Nong Khang airport took place in Huaphanh Province on May 15 between General Director of Vietnam’s Hoang Anh Gia Lai Agriculture Joint Stock Company (HAGL Agrico) Tran Bao Son and General Director of the Department of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Public Works and Transport Viengxay Singkham.

(KPL) The handover of newly built Nong Khang airport took place in Huaphanh Province on May 15 between General Director of Vietnam’s Hoang Anh Gia Lai Agriculture Joint Stock Company (HAGL Agrico) Tran Bao Son and General Director of the Department of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Public Works and Transport Viengxay Singkham.

The handover ceremony was witnessed by Minister of Public works and Transport Ngampasong Muongmany, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment of Vietnam cum Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee Vice President Tran Quoc Phuong, Governor of Huaphanh Province Vanxay Phengsoumma, and relevant officials of both sides.

Head of the Nong Khang airport construction project Mr Phouthong Inthaseng said, “This project is in the development strategic plan of the Department of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Public Works and Transport which has been devised in line the government policy on turning the country into a landlinked hub with regional and international connectivity.” 

The airport has been constructed according to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and is capable of accommodating 100,000 passengers per year and 70-100-seater aircrafts including ATR72, and MA-60.

The construction of the Build-Transfer (BT) project was launched in October 2013.

The project is financed with a 82-million USD loan from Hoang Anh Gia Lai Agricultural Joint Stock Company (HAGL Agrico).

“The inauguration of the Nong Khang airport is not only an important milestone in Laos-Vietnam cooperation but also fulfills the long-awaited expectations of local ethnic groups, offering opportunities to the province to grow in all aspects,” said Party Secretary and Governor of Huaphan Province Vanxay Phengsoumma.

Located in an important economic-trade gateway between Laos and Vietnam, the airport also contributes significantly to the development of cross-border export-import activities between the two countries. It not only promotes tourism and economic growth of Huaphan but also symbolises the enduring friendship and sustainable cooperation between the two neighbors.
