Laos-Thai border authorities meet in Bokeo

KPL (KPL) Laos-Thai border authorities of Bokeo and Xayaboury provinces of Laos and Pha Mueang Force of Thailand recently met in Huayxay, Bokeo Province for the 3rd meeting of the Lao-Thai border coordination committee.

(KPL) Laos-Thai border authorities of Bokeo and Xayaboury provinces of Laos and Pha Mueang Force of Thailand recently met in Huayxay, Bokeo Province for the 3rd meeting of the Lao-Thai border coordination committee.

The meeting was attended by Brig. Gen. Kout Phomma, Head of Border Coordination Committee for Northern Regions of Laos and Col. Thongkhai Siyalath, Head of Laos-Thai Border Coordination Committee of Bokeo Province and Maj. Gen. Suparerk Sathapornpol, Head of Thai-Lao Border Coordination Committee, and relevant officials of both sides.

The meeting focused its discussion on joint efforts against drug issues. The authorities of the two countries noted that both sides have attached attention to implementing their cooperation plan as they have carried out anti-drug efforts on a regular basis.

Over the past one year, authorities in Bokeo and Xayaboury have seized more than 51 million pills of methamphetamine, 1,066 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 91 kg of ketamine, 19 cars, two motorcycles, and 72 drug traffickers. Meanwhile, Thai authorities have seized 6.4 million pills of methamphetamine.

Both sides agreed on continuing to seek ways to promote cooperation on maintaining security along the Lao-Thai common border, and further promote exchange of lessons on suppressing illegal immigration, goods smuggling, and drug trafficking.
