Pakse district to be centre of economic and tourism hub

KPL (KPL) Pakse district in Champassak Province will become the economic and tourism centre in southern Laos, according to the Deputy Director of the Public Works and Transport Department of Champassak Province, Mr Bounnao Fongkhamdang. A signing ceremony for the consultancy service for the Pakse urban environment improvement project was held on 11 August in Pakse district, Champassak Province.

(KPL) Pakse district in Champassak Province will become the economic and tourism centre in southern Laos, according to the Deputy Director of the Public Works and Transport Department of Champassak Province, Mr Bounnao Fongkhamdang.

A signing ceremony for the consultancy service for the Pakse urban environment improvement project was held on 11 August in Pakse district, Champassak Province.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mrs Vivaikham Phosalath, the Vice Governor of Champassak Province, Mr Bouason Vongsongkhon, the Director of the Public Works and Transport Department of Champassak Province, Mr Soukkaserm Pakdimanivong, and relevant officials.

The project is being financed with a low interest loan worth over US$31 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). 

“The project proposal was prepared in 2009.  The feasibility study into the project has already been completed and we are about to begin implementing the project focusing on improving garbage management and disposal, improving canals by raising embankments, and building the capacity of local authorities,” said the Deputy Director of the Public Works and Transport Department of Champassak Province, Mr Bounnao Fongkhamdang.

The 6-year project is expected to improve the living conditions of over one million people living in nearby communities according to Mr Bounnao.
