Japan funds school construction project in Borikhamxay

KPL (KPL) The Government of Japan handed over Thongnami Lower Secondary School, financed and constructed by the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) in Thongnami village, in Borikhamxay province.

(KPL) The Government of Japan handed over Thongnami Lower Secondary School, financed and constructed by the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) in Thongnami village, in Borikhamxay province.

The official handover ceremony was held on 6 October at the school with the attendance of Ms. Bounnhong Sisouvannakhone, Deputy Governor of Borikhamxay province, Mr. Atsushi Okazaki of the Embassy of Japan and other officials concerned including principals of the beneficiary schools and students. The agreement for the Grant Aid project amounting to 60,542 US dollars was signed in March 2013.

Through the assistance, the school building was newly constructed and the capacity of the school was expanded to accept all range of lower secondary students. It is expected to improve educational environment in the area.

Japan has supported the Lao PDR in its socio-economic development for many years. Through the GGP scheme, Japan has funded 452 community-based projects in education, health, small infrastructure, etc. with 3.3 billion Japanese yen [31.4 million USD to empower underprivileged people in various parts of the country since 1989, including 170 primary schools and 43 lower secondary schools construction projects.
