Nationwide civil and criminal cases reach over 64,000

KPL The Supreme People's Procuracy of Lao PDR reported on its 2026 performance and outlined its 2027 strategic directions during the 2nd Ordinary Session of the 10th National Assembly on 9 October.

The session was chaired by Vice-President of the National Assembly Kongkeo Xaysongkham, with the performance report delivered by the Head of the Supreme People's Procuracy, Brig. Gen. Livong Laoly.

Brig. Gen. Livong stated that in 2026, the Supreme People's Procuracy handled 74 first-instance civil cases, comprising 24 new filings and 50 cases carried over from 2025. Of these, 71 cases (95.9%) have been resolved and submitted to the courts.

Regarding appeals, the SPP processed six cases (four carried over and two new), resolving and submitting all of them to the courts. For cassation-instance cases, the prosecutorate handled 87 cases, resolving 77, with 10 currently under review.

All 19 civil case retrial petitions and 20 newly requested civil case files received this year were fully resolved. Additionally, out of 10 letters of proposal and notifications from the National Assembly, nine were resolved, leaving one under review.

The Head of the SPP also highlighted efforts in monitoring the enforcement of court judgments.

Out of over 60,300 criminal cases handled—comprising over 56,000 carried over and nearly 4,000 new filings—926 have been successfully enforced. A further 53,393 remain under enforcement, 5,973 have been suspended, and 22 were referred to the prosecutorate.

Meanwhile, out of over 12,400 civil cases (11,240 carried over and 1,229 new), 766 have been successfully enforced. A further 11,259 remain under enforcement, 414 were suspended, and 28 were sent to the prosecutorate.
