The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a special lecture in Vientiane on September 29 to commemorate several major national historical anniversaries, including the 117th birthday of President Souphanouvong and the 81st anniversary of the Nationwide Day of Seizing Power.
(KPL) The event also marked the 49th anniversary of the signing of the Laos-Vietnam Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, the 64th anniversary of Laos-Vietnam diplomatic relations, the 76th anniversary of the Lao Front for National Construction, the 35th anniversary of the promulgation of the Constitution of the Lao PDR, and the 81st anniversary of Lao diplomacy.
The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Maithong Thammavongsa, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and attended by more than 450 participants, including Party Committee members, ministry leaders, department and division heads, and civil servants.
Mr. Maithong highlighted President Souphanouvong’s contributions to the national liberation struggle and to the defence and development of the country. He also stressed the importance of continuing to promote public awareness of bilateral cooperation and further strengthening the special friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Viet Nam.
The lecture also aimed to strengthen officials’ understanding of the country’s historical traditions, foreign policy and diplomatic relations, particularly the Laos-Vietnam special partnership.
Mr. Maithong called on Party committees, leaders, Party members and civil servants to uphold the Party’s traditions, draw lessons from past experience and improve leadership and working methods to meet the requirements of the new era.
He urged ministry officials to contribute to building a clean, strong and steadfast Party organisation and to advancing the country’s foreign affairs in line with national objectives.
