(KPL) Authorities in Boten Zone, Luang Namtha Province, have seized 35,600 e-cigarettes concealed among other goods during an operation to crack down on the illegal transport of e-cigarettes.
According to the Luang Namtha Provincial Public Security Headquarters, the seizure took place at about 6:00 pm on September 12, 2026, after police received information from a member of the public about a group suspected of transporting illegal e-cigarettes.
Specialised police officers were dispatched to inspect the area and found nine people, including one woman, transferring goods from a six-wheeled truck bearing Chinese licence plate K135114 to another six-wheeled truck bearing Luang Prabang licence plate Bk 3859.
A subsequent inspection uncovered 110 large cartons and 13 small cartons containing a total of 35,600 e-cigarettes hidden beneath other goods.
The case is being handled under Article 315 of the Penal Code of the Lao PDR concerning the illegal transport of psychotropic and psychoactive substances.
The Boten Zone Public Security Command has handed the suspects and seized items to the relevant divisions of the Luang Namtha Provincial Public Security Command for further investigation, including efforts to identify other individuals involved in the network and bring those responsible to justice.
