Mr. Sophon Zarum, President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Thailand, along with a high-level delegation, laid a wreath and signed the book of condolences on August 11, 2026, to pay respects to Xaysomphone Phomvihane, Member of the Politburo of the Party Central Committee and President of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR, who passed away on August 8.
The Thai delegation's wreath-laying and signing of the condolence book expressed profound sorrow and respect for Mr. Xaysomphone and recognised his contributions, achievements, and lifelong dedication to the nation and people of Laos.
The tribute also reflected the longstanding friendship and close cooperation between the legislative bodies of Laos and Thailand, as well as the enduring relations between the two neighbouring countries.
The official funeral ceremony for Mr. Xaysomphone will be held on August 12, 2026, at the That Luang Esplanade in Vientiane Capital.
