Guangxi Chinagreen Biological Technology Co., Ltd. is expanding high-tech mushroom production and strengthening exports to ASEAN markets while creating jobs for local communities, demonstrating how modern agriculture can drive both economic growth and poverty reduction.

During a media visit on June 16, company representatives said the project involves a total investment of 1.8 billion yuan (about US$247 million). Once fully completed, the facility is expected to generate annual output worth more than 2.5 billion yuan and contribute around 28 million yuan in tax revenue each year.
The Guangxi base is part of Chinagreen’s nationwide network of production facilities, with research and development centered at its headquarters in Jiangsu Province. The company is also expanding with a new production base in Yunnan.

Inside the factory, mushroom cultivation relies on advanced biotechnology and automated systems. Mushrooms are grown using a mixture of agricultural materials, including corn cobs, wood residues and rice husks, under carefully controlled temperature and humidity conditions. Sterilized production areas and automated climate controls help ensure high product quality and food safety.

The facility produces around 180 tonnes of edible mushrooms each day, including approximately 120 tonnes of enoki mushrooms and about 50 tonnes of other specialty varieties.
Export markets play a key role in the company’s strategy. About 90 percent of production from the Guangxi facility is shipped overseas, primarily to ASEAN countries such as Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia, while additional exports reach markets in North America and Europe.

Although the company uses artificial intelligence and automation in areas such as raw material processing and packaging, it continues to emphasize local employment. More than 600 people work at the facility, with local residents accounting for around 80 percent of the workforce.
Company officials said technology is being used to improve efficiency rather than replace workers, helping provide stable employment and raise incomes in surrounding communities. Monthly salaries range from 4,000 to 7,000 yuan, offering competitive wages for the region.
As expansion continues, Chinagreen aims to combine smart agriculture, international trade and local job creation, positioning Guangxi as an increasingly important supplier of edible fungi to ASEAN and global markets.
