(KPL) The Cuban embassy in Laos celebrated the 63rd anniversary of the victory of Playa Girón and the Lao New Year on  26 April.

“After the victory of Playa Girón, the people of America were a little freer”…Fidel Castro.

Dr. Chaleune Yiapahoer, vice president of the Lao National Assembly, president of the Friendship Association and the Laos - Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Committee.

April is a month of celebration and triumphs. Today, we particularly commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the victory of the Battle of Playa Girón. Fidel said at that time: “Those days in Girón were difficult, we knew that imperialism would not forgive the Revolution we were making.” There this was put to the test, according to press release of Cuban embassy in Laos.

On April 19, we commemorated the 63rd anniversary of the Playa Girón Victory, an overwhelming triumph over the invading force that arrived at the Bay of Pigs in the early hours of April 17, 1961, with 1,500 men: equipped, trained and financed by the U.S. government.

The historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel, said that after that victory, the people of America were freer.

The fight turned into a feat and the people “with weapons in their hands and at the price of their blood” fought for socialism. In less than 72 hours, imperialism had its first major military defeat in America, because we Cubans,  decided to be masters of our destiny and make dignity the bastion.

Today, Cuba, despite the strict and recrudescent economic blockade, which the members of the United Nations Organization overwhelmingly reject, including the consistent position of support of the Government of Laos, we continue to advance against the obstacles and sanctions that this cruel scourge imposes on the people of Cuba and its development.

This celebration is important in the year of the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the 49th anniversary of the independence of the Lao PDR and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.

We also celebrate the traditional Pi Mai Lao number 2567 and we also wish health, a happy and successful new year to the Lao leaders and people, committed to the country's socioeconomic development agenda, and the construction of a prosperous and sustainable socialism

We appreciate the permanent work and support of the friends present here, without whom the work of advancing together for the development of bilateral relations between Cuba and Laos would not be possible.

For many people in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), accessing basic public services—such as birth registration, business licenses, or land certificates—has long been a costly and time-consuming challenge. Multiple visits to different government offices, high service fees, and long travel distances have often left citizens, particularly in rural and remote areas, underserved.
