A meeting to review the work of the National Internet Management Committee in 2025 and set directions for the 2026 plan was held in Luang Prabang Province on December 25.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security Vilai Lakhamphong, who also serves as Chairman of the National Internet Management Committee. Attendees included Minister of Technology and Communications Santisuk Simmalavong, deputy ministers, senior officials, and representatives from relevant ministries and sectors.
During the meeting, Minasai Philavong, Director of the National Internet Center under the Ministry of Technology and Communications, presented a draft summary of the committee’s 2025 achievements and proposed plans for 2026, along with a draft revision of the decree on the organization and operations of the committee.
Officials reported progress in internet management, digital development, and the application of information and communication technologies across government, business, and society. However, challenges remain, particularly related to improper internet use, misinformation, and misuse of social media platforms.
The committee has directed relevant agencies to address these issues through coordinated measures. Initial results have been seen in areas such as telecommunications consolidation, radio frequency inspection, signal and cable management, telephone number registration, digital infrastructure development, cybersecurity oversight, and online content management.
The meeting also marked the official launch of the Anti-Online Fraud Center hotline, 1533, which is scheduled to begin full operations on December 29, 2025.
In closing remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Vilai Lakhamphong stressed the need to further clarify the roles and responsibilities of the National Internet Management Committee, strengthen coordination mechanisms across ministries and provincial bodies, and update relevant legislation to reflect current digital conditions.
He highlighted priority tasks including revising laws related to computer crime and internet information management, developing national strategies on telecommunications and internet development, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and IPv6 adoption, strengthening monitoring and response to harmful online content, enhancing oversight of service providers, completing telephone number registration, and expanding internet and telecommunications infrastructure to rural and remote areas.
