More than 114,000 tourists visited Khong district in Champasak Province during the first nine months of 2026, an increase of 5,107 compared with the same period last year, reflecting continued growth in the district’s tourism sector.

The district welcomed 53,317 domestic tourists and 61,239 international visitors, according to Phaivanh Sorkhongshin, head of the Khong District Culture and Tourism Office.
To accommodate the growing number of visitors, Khong district has 97 accommodation establishments, including 16 hotels, 80 guesthouses and one resort, along with 20 restaurants. Tourist transport services include 205 boats, 18 vehicles operating on Don Det and Don Khone, and 10 electric vehicles, Mr Phaivanh said.
He attributed the growth in part to improvements in tourism infrastructure under the Asian Development Bank-funded Second Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project. Completed in 2023, the project supported the construction of a concrete road at the entrance to Nakasang, improvements to Nakasang port and a road linking Don Det and Don Khone, as well as upgrades to other tourist sites.
These improvements have made it easier for local residents and visitors to travel between destinations, transport goods and access tourist attractions. They have also created employment opportunities and helped bring tourism-related income to local communities.
Khong district is home to 41 natural, historical and cultural attractions, including 20 natural sites, seven historical sites and 14 cultural sites. Among its best-known destinations are Khone Phapheng and Somphamit waterfalls.
Beyond sightseeing, visitors can explore the islands by bicycle, kayak, canoe or boat, cross local bridges and experience the area's natural scenery and traditional way of life.
